What this programme delivers

Our SIA-approved Model for Physical Intervention gives Door Supervisors (DS) and Close Protection Operatives (CP) a practical, decision-ready structure to prevent conflict, manage risk, and operate professionally under pressure.

It begins with communication and embeds dynamic risk assessments into every decision—then, only as a last resort, sets out safer disengagement and holding skills that prioritise staff and public safety.

Aligned with licence-linked training, the model emphasises:

• Planning over improvisation: structured role assignment, communication protocols, and exit routes
• Proportionality and necessity: intervene only when justified; disengage early where risk escalates
• Post-incident learning: reporting, welfare checks, and continuous improvement

Why this matters

Physical Intervention skills are essential—but they can’t fully protect against a sudden attack. That’s why we pair skills training with risk-led controls, designed and implemented where credible threats are foreseeable.

  Learners must download themselves due to security controls and IP protection—this also allows QN to verify who has downloaded/completed it.

Refresher focus: practical skills first

As this is a refresher qualification, the focus is on practical performance.

Before any final assessments, learners must complete:

• Minimum 2^1/2 hours practice to develop search skills
• Minimum 9 hours practice to refine Door Supervisor PI skills
• Minimum 8 hours practice to refine Close Protection PI skills

(Provided learners complete the pre-learning in advance.)

First Aid requirement (SIA)

Training centres must confirm each learner holds an appropriate Level 3 First Aid at Work or higher qualification. Existing certificates must be valid for at least 12 months from the course start date and submitted as evidence during induction.

We can deliver suitable First Aid qualifications alongside security training as a package, but all First Aid must be completed and passed before paperwork is submitted to the Awarding Body for certification.

Duty of care: protecting security staff

Recent serious assaults on security personnel underline a basic truth: employers have a legal and moral duty to anticipate credible risks and equip their staff accordingly. In the UK, that duty rests on strong statutory and common-law foundations and translates into clear, practical requirements for any organisation deploying security personnel.
