The Security Industry Authority stresses that it is essential that people working in the private security industry undergo a structured training programme that results in recognised qualifications.
The belief is that this will result in a competent and professional workforce, that will improve the public image of the private security industry.
It is our contention though, that training should be ongoing and the skilled 'Security Practitioner' will be able to demonstrate this by embarking on a CPD (continued professional development) programme.
Our contribution is to deliver this training from our impressive portfolio of accredited training programmes through Edexcel and HABC.
The IMO Convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watch-Keeping for seafarers adopted new sets of amendments in 2010 in Manila called "The Manila Amendments". These amendments were necessary in order to keep training standards in line with new technological and operational requirements that require new shipboard competence.
The Manila Amendments are effective as from 1st January 2012.
Although there is a transition period until 2017 where all seafarers must be certified and trained according to the new standards, individuals will find it difficult to get a job in Maritime Security unless they have a STCW Basic Training certificate at the very least.
STCW Basic Training for SEAFARERS (STCW A-VI/1-1 to STCW A-VI/1-4)
The course covers the minimum training requirements outlined in the (STCW) Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers for topics such as organisation, communication, group behaviour, safety and personal interaction, which influence human relationships aboard ship.
There are 4 mandatory modules included in the STCW Basic Training for Seafarer's Course, that are delivered over 5 days at our training centre in Riga on the Baltic Sea.
1. Personal Survival Techniques (STCW A-VI/1-1)
2. Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention (STCW A-VI/1-2)
3. Elementary First Aid (STCW A-VI/1-3)
4. Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (STCW A-VI/1-4)
